General dentistry

A healthy and beautiful smile can be maintained by early detection and prevention. For the maintenance and care of one’s teeth, a general dentist performs various dental treatments for his clients. He is responsible for the preventive care and restorative treatments. The preventative approach comprises six months of dental cleaning and series of checkups.

Dentistry covers prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of different diseases, disorders and conditions which affect the teeth and gums. General dentistry is composed of various procedures. First, there is an initial consultation. Moreover, diagnostics like CT scans, X-rays and certain wax moulds for the replacement of teeth. Different methods which include X-rays, tests and others are done in order to know the defects on teeth before the actual treatment.

For the treatments, the general dentist will conduct several or all these procedures:

Bonding– This is the term for the procedure wherein a particular resin will be utilized as a sort of glue to put things together (ex. Veneer into a tooth). It is used for treatment of damaged or stained teeth.

Dental Cleaning- This can be in a form of either “scale or polish” or an advice on flossing & brushing.

Dentures– These are set of false teeth which are removable and could act just like the natural teeth. They can replace the few missing teeth which may be resulted from a disease or an accident.

Root Canal treatment– This can be performed by a specialist dentist or a general dentist. When a tissue became infected, this procedure must be done.

Maxillofacial treatments and oral (mouth) – This dental procedure is for the jaw, mouth and face. This includes Temporo mandibular Joint syndrome treatment and dental implants.

Crowns– These are caps or artificial teeth that can serve as a replacement to the damaged teeth. It will help in maintaining the structure and for protection from more teeth damage.

Bridge– This comprises pontic or an artificial tooth that are anchored to couple of “crowns”.

Fillings– One’s teeth could be filled with materials such as composite resin, mercury, gold, porcelain and amalgam.
